City of Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard Program
If your child is injured and cannot participate in any of the scheduled swim tests, you may request to participate in the alternate swim test.
In order to be considered for the alternate swim test, you MUST:
- Notify us in writing AND provide the required documents (see next bullet point) PRIOR to the last swim test. Notification should be emailed to newportjg@nbfd.net.
- Submit a doctor's note at the time of your request.
- The doctor's note must state that your child is not cleared to swim and must indicate the anticipated recovery date or next reevaluation date.

This alternate swim test is typically held in May. You will be notified once the time and date for your child’s swim test have been determined.
