I'm not a Newport Beach resident. Can I still participate?
Yes! If you live outside of Newport Beach you are still welcome to become a Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard!
All NBJG participants are required to pass the NBJG Swim Test in order to qualify for program participation. We typically offer three swim test dates in March. Make-up dates are not offered.
What if we can't make the swim test because we live out of state?
If you live more than 200 miles from Newport Beach, and cannot make one of the scheduled NBJG Swim Test dates, you may request to participate in the alternate swim test.
The alternate swim test date is typically the day before the summer NBJG program begins. Participants who qualify for this tryout have one try to pass the test.
To be considered for the alternate swim test, you MUST:
- Live more than 200 miles from Newport Beach.
- Notify us in writing AND submit the required documents (see next bullet point) PRIOR to the last swim test. Notification should be emailed to newportjg@nbfd.net.
- Submit a letter from your child's school (on school letterhead) stating your child is enrolled for the current school year. Must be submitted PRIOR to the last March swim test.
- Pay for the program during the registration window. To view the cancellation policy, click here.
- Families requesting this test are not able to qualify for the "Newport Beach Residency" registration window.
