Wednesday, June 29 - Orange St. (Tower 68)
WAIVER: None Required
Location: Division A will be meeting and dismissing from Tower 68, located at Orange St. in West Newport.
Please have your Junior Lifeguard meet in uniform at their regularly scheduled time, 9:00 a.m. to Noon or 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Junior Guards should wear or bring tennis shoes this day. Encourage your Junior Lifeguards to bring a snack with a drink and plenty of water. Also, please make sure all of their gear is marked with their name. JGs are encouraged to bring a bodyboard as well.
Thursday, July 7 - Huntington State Beach (Between Brookhurst St. & Magnolia St.)
WAIVER: None Required
Location: Division A will be meeting and dismissing from Huntington State Beach between lifeguard towers 5 and 6. Please have your Junior Lifeguard meet in uniform at their regularly scheduled time, 9:00 a.m. to Noon or 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Pick-Up/Drop-Off: To access this area, enter the parking lot off of Brookhurst Ave. The morning group may need to enter at Magnolia Street if the Brookhurst entrance is not open yet.
Tell the parking attendant you are with the Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard Program and they will waive the parking fee for you to DROP OFF ONLY. If you plan to stay for the day, you must pay for parking. We will have a Junior Lifeguard Instructor in the parking lot assisting JGs to the meeting spot. Wednesday, July 13 - Catalina
WAIVER: REQUIRED - Due June 29
Please complete the waiver in your JG's profile no later than Wednesday, June 29. To access the waiver, log in to your NBJG account and click on the "excursion" link in the upper right corner. The waiver will appear in your NBJG account at the end of the day on June 21. You will need to know the name of your JG's instructor when completing this waiver.
Location: Transportation to/from Catalina will be provided by the Catalina Flyer departing out of Newport Harbor (Balboa Pavilion). We will be taking up to all of the A Junior Lifeguards and eight instructors and JG coordinators on the trip. The Newport Beach Fire/Lifeguard staff will coordinate activities including hiking, snorkeling, and instruction.
Be sure to Bring: Each Junior Lifeguard needs to bring JG Uniform/gear (trunks, shirt, hat, towel, backpack), snacks, a sack lunch, plenty of water, snorkel gear, fins, sandals, and shoes for hiking.
Tentative Schedule (Subject to Change):
7:30 a.m. - Check-in begins for ALL Division A JGs who have submitted their Catalina form on time. JGs will meet at Junior Lifeguard Headquarters.
JGs must be checked in before 8:00 a.m. in order to be able to attend this field trip.
8:15 a.m. - Walk to Catalina Flyer.
8:30 a.m. - Board Catalina Flyer.
9:00 a.m. - Catalina Flyer departs for Catalina.
10:15 a.m. - Arrive in Catalina.
10:30 a.m. - Walk to Casino Point to snorkel.
10:45 a.m. - Snorkel at Casino Point.
12:00 p.m. - Lunch (Bring your own lunch!)
12:45 p.m. - Hike to top of hill overlooking Avalon for group picture.
2:15 p.m. - Walk to Lover's Cove for second snorkeling stop.
2:30 p.m. - Snorkel at Lover's Cove.
3:30 p.m. - Return to Catalina Flyer. Roll call.
4:00 p.m. - Board Catalina Flyer for Departure
4:30 p.m. - Departure from Catalina
5: 45 p.m. - Return to Newport Harbor for Pick-Up
Parents can pick-up at the Catalina Flyer or JG Headquarters (off A St.) at 5:45 p.m. after final roll call.
Wednesday, July 20 - NEW LOCATION! Corona del Mar State Beach (updated 07/18/22)
WAIVER: None Required
Location: Division A will be meeting and dismissing from Tower #5. JGs can be picked-up and dropped-off at Inspiration Point in Corona del Mar. Navigate to: 3583 Ocean Blvd. Corona del Mar, CA 92625. Please meet at your regularly scheduled time, 9:00 a.m. to Noon or 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Junior Guards should wear or bring sandals this day. Encourage your Junior Lifeguards to bring a snack with a drink and plenty of water. Also, please make sure all of their gear is marked with their name. You may also bring a body board, mask, and snorkel if you would like.
Wednesday, July 27 - Laguna Beach
WAIVER: None Required
Location: Division A will be meeting and dismissing from Laguna Beach. Navigate to 419 Cliff Drive, Laguna Beach, CA 92651. Heading South on PCH turn right down Myrtle St., then turn left on Cliff Drive and drop off in the park here (see map). There will be bagged parking meters where families should drop-off/pick-up. JG Staff will be stationed in this area to greet the JGs.
Please have your Junior Lifeguard meet in uniform at their regularly scheduled time, 9:00 a.m. to Noon or 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Junior Guards should bring a snack and plenty of water. Also, please make sure all of their gear is marked with their name. JGs are encouraged to bring mask/snorkel and a bodyboard if they like.
