field trip sCHEDULE:

field trip day expectations:

  • Pick-up and drop-off takes place at field trip location. See detailed descriptions below.
  • Arrive at regularly scheduled session time. (Morning: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Afternoon: 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.)
  • Arrive in uniform, including backpack and a towel
  • Have footwear
  • Bring a snack
  • Bring water
  • Stay for the full program session. No early departures or late arrivals!

 

field trip LOCATION DESCRIPTIONS:


Corona del Mar State Beach

Pick-up/Drop-off: Meet at Inspiration Point in Corona del Mar,  3583 Ocean Blvd., Corona del Mar, CA 92625. Junior Lifeguard Instructors will meet JGs and walk them down the hill to the tower they will be stationed near for the day.

additional gear: JGs are encouraged to bring a bodyboard, mask, and snorkel.

 

Tower 18

Pick-up/Drop-off:

  • Biking/Walking - Meet at Tower 18
  • Driving - Meet at Legion Hall/Veteran's Memorial Park grass, 1600 W Balboa Blvd. Link Map. Turn in off 15th Street and head down Bay Avenue toward the marina. Junior Lifeguard Staff will direct JGs to their check-in location. 

 

Tower 40

Pick-up/Drop-off:

  • Biking/Walking: Meet at Tower 18
  • Driving: Meet at 38th Street Park at the corner of 36th and Park Lane. Turn east on 38th Street (away from the ocean), turn right down Park Ln, and turn west onto 36th. You can exit back onto Balboa Blvd after you've dropped off. Junior Lifeguard Staff will direct JGs to their check-in location.

additional gear: JGs are encouraged to bring a bodyboard. Surfboards are NOT allowed due to blackball.

 

Tower 68 - Orange Street

Pick-up/Drop-off: Meet and dismiss from Tower 68, located at Orange St. in West Newport.

additional gear: JGs are encouraged to bring a bodyboard or surfboard.

 

Division A-Only FIELD TRIPS:


Catalina

WAIVER: REQUIRED - Due June 30

To access the waiver: log in to your NBJG account and click on the "excursion" link in the upper right corner. The waiver is currently available in your NBJG account. You will need to know the name of your JG's instructor when completing this waiver. Complete the waiver in your JG's profile no later than Tuesday, June 30.

PICK-UP/DROP-UP: Meet and dismiss from JGHQ this day, 901 East Ocean Front, Newport Beach. ​Transportation to/from Catalina is provided by the City of Newport Beach via the Catalina Flyer departing out of Newport Harbor.

 

Be sure to Bring:

  • JG uniform/gear
  • Sandals or Sneakers *Required to board the Catalina Flyer*
  • Snack
  • Lunch or lunch money
  • Water 
  • Sunscreen
  • Snorkel gear & fins
  • Wetsuit top (optional)
 
CATALINA Schedule:
  • 7:15 a.m. - Check-in begins for ALL Division A JGs who have submitted their Catalina form on time. 
  • JGs will meet at Junior Lifeguard Headquarters. 
  • JGs must be checked in before 7:30 a.m. in order to be able to attend this field trip.
  • 8:45 a.m. - Catalina Flyer departs for Catalina.
  • 6:00 p.m. - Return to Newport Harbor. 
  • 6:15 p.m. - Pick-up is at JG Headquarters after final roll call. JGs must be checked out before going home. ***DO NOT pick-up at the Catalina Flyer.***

 

Huntington State Beach - Between Brookhurst St. & Magnolia St.

PICK-UP/DROP-UP: iDivision A will meet and dismiss from Huntington State Beach between lifeguard towers 5 and 6. Enter the parking lot off of Brookhurst Street. If the Brookhurst entrance is closed, use the Magnolia entrance. Tell the parking attendant you are with the Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard Program and they will waive the parking fee for you to DROP OFF ONLY. If you plan to stay for the day, you must pay for parking. Junior Lifeguard Instructors will assist JGs to the meeting spot. We will also have a red NBJG EZ-Up on the sand.

additional gear: JGs are encouraged to bring a bodyboard and surfboard as well.

 

Laguna Beach – heisler park

PICK-UP/DROP-UP: Meeting and dismissing from Laguna Beach. Navigate to 419 Cliff Drive, Laguna Beach, CA 92651. Heading South on PCH turn right on Myrtle St., then turn left on Cliff Drive and drop off in the park here. There will be bagged parking meters where families should drop-off/pick-up. JG Staff will be stationed in this area to greet the JGs.

additional gear: JGs are encouraged to bring mask/snorkel, wetsuit top, shoes, and a surfboard if they like.
